Andrew Berlin wanted to be a college professor. Inspired by numerous teachers throughout high school and college led the Glencoe native to pursue teaching political science, history or philosophy.
That course changed when he decided to attend Loyola University-Chicago for law school, and after working as a lawyer for two years, he joined his father and bought Alco Packaging in 1988.
With a new Walgreens under construction just down the road in Winnetka, Glencoe residents have been wondering what would become of the Walgreens location in their town.
“We received a number of inquiries from residents regarding the new Walgreens location that’s currently under construction in Winnetka and what that might mean for the current Glencoe location in Hubbard Woods Plaza,” Village Manager Phil Kiraly said.

Rodelius is beginning his 16th season as chief engineer of the exhibit. The Model Railroad Garden began in 2000.

The end of coyote mating season has resulted in a spike of sightings in Glencoe within the past few weeks.
“My best guess is that the females may have gone into dens and the males are out and about,” said Katie Sweeney, a Glencoe Public Safety officer. “The calls that I have gotten most recently — and photos that have been sent — are those of a single coyote. I did receive video of a pair (of coyotes) over one month ago and the larger of the two matches the single coyote photos.”
The 7th Annual Glencoe Festival of Art was a celebration of the creativity of more than 100 juried artisans from throughout the United States. Art aficionados looking for unique items for their homes or presents for others were not disappointed as they strolled Glencoe’s downtown streets looking at the creative wares Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 1-2.
