Many Glencoe residents commute to the city for work every day, by car or by train. On Sept. 11, Tom Seftenberg will make his commute on foot.

The longtime Glencoe resident and Class of 1985 New Trier graduate is making the trip for the fifth iteration of the Commute for the Cure fundraiser, which attempts to raise funds for research of juvenile diabetes. Tom’s wife, Lee, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1995 — eventually, Tom decided to do something about it.
