The final state championship game under the auspices of the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association was played on June 3 at Stevenson and fittingly it was a clash that pitted New Trier against Loyola.

Each team had won 11 state titles since the inception of the tournament in 1988 and 2000 was the last time neither one was in the championship game.

Defending state champion Loyola took the field with a 17-0 record against Illinois opponents, while 2016 runner-up New Trier had a 17-1 record in state with the only loss coming by a single goal at the hands of the Ramblers.
