It was the Great War, World War I. Glencoe residents were part of the war to end all wars.

About 10 percent of the suburb’s populations answered the call when the U.S. entered the war and volunteered or enlisted in the military. Five residents ultimately gave their lives for it. The rest of Glencoe population similarly united together and became involved in projects to help the war project at home.
