At approximately 3:00 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, September 5, a strong storm system with damaging winds struck many of the suburbs to the north and northwest of Chicago. The storm front, which packed winds up to 80 miles per hour in some areas, downed many trees which resulted in widespread power outages. In all, more than 174,000 ComEd customers lost power as a result of the storm, and in Glencoe, more than one-third of the Village’s residences (1,160) experienced some interruption to their electricity service during the weekend of Sept. 5-7.
