It all started with a plastic guitar in Buffalo, N.Y.

Jason Lewis, now a senior at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a public arts conservatory in Winston-Salem, N.C., grew up in Glencoe and attended New Trier as a freshman. From a very early age, music became a driving force in his life, taking him from the Chicago area to remote northern Michigan to North Carolina.

Lewis, then just 1, was sitting on his father Wade’s lap in his grandparents’ Buffalo home. His older brother, Aaron, started playing a plastic guitar he’d found in the basement.
