Wrexham Star Mullin Sidelined by Surgery as Team Remains Unbeaten
Wrexham’s key striker Paul Mullin is still out of action as the 2024/25 League One season progresses. The Welsh side, despite missing their star forward—who recently had a cameo in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine—has had a solid start, remaining undefeated in their first three league games with seven points. Their only defeat this season came in the Carabao Cup against Sheffield United. Mullin has missed all these matches and is also anticipated to be out for the upcoming clash against Reading.
Chronic Back Injury Forced Mullin to Undergo Surgery
Mullin’s absence is a result of chronic back pain, which led to a necessary surgery earlier this summer. The issue stemmed from a spinal injury he sustained during the 2023/24 campaign. Remarkably, Mullin played through the pain that season, missing only six league games.
Mullin played every game during this period, relying on painkillers to manage severe lower back issues. He admitted the pain was so bad he “couldn’t even put [his] socks on the day after a match.” He eventually decided on surgery, noting it “has proved to be the correct decision.” The procedure caused him to miss the club’s USA pre-season tour and the start of the current season.
Manager Parkinson Confident in Mullin’s Imminent Return
Despite the setback, the news regarding Mullin’s recovery is positive. Manager Phil Parkinson confirmed in early August that the striker is back on the grass and healing well.
Parkinson stated that Mullin “is progressing well” and, being a “naturally fit lad,” should not take long to be match-ready. The manager is satisfied that the operation “has done its trick” and Mullin “feels so much better.” Parkinson concluded, “Touch wood, if there’s no problems with it, I envisage he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
Persib Bandung Gears Up for Crucial AFC Champions League Two Match Against Selangor FC
In other football news, Persib Bandung is preparing for an important Group G fixture in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2). Persib will host Selangor FC at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Both teams enter the match with strong form. Persib is coming off a 3-0 victory over PSBS Biak in the BRI Super League and a 2-0 ACL 2 win against Bangkok United. Similarly, Selangor FC recently secured a convincing 4-0 win over Negeri Sembilan in the Malaysian FA Cup.
Persib’s defender, Julio Cesar, acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming challenge. He noted that Selangor has seen recent improvement under French coach Christhope Gamel: “We saw that Selangor changed their coach, and they’ve managed to win in the last few games. They are more developed now.”
